Mark Roberts is the sound recordist on some of television’s best-known documentaries, including all nine of the BBC’s Expedition series from Amazon Abyss to Wild Burma: Nature’s Lost Kingdom, as well as landmark series such as Wild China, Life and Frozen Planet. He also frequently works with TV presenter Kate Humble, on several series including Extreme Wives, Living With Nomads and Chinese New Year 2016: The Biggest Celebration On Earth

Mark trained in outside broadcasts and has worked closely with NBC’s Today Show on every summer and winter Olympic Games, from Athens 2004 to Sochi 2014.

Remote and extreme environments are his speciality, often with limited resources, but never compromising the quality of his sound recordings.

An avid nature-lover, explorer and conservationist, Mark is the frequent choice of the BBC and NBC, as well as dozens of natural-history production companies such as Passion Pictures and Offspring Films.

From bases in Hong Kong and UK he operates internationally, providing first-class audio expertise every time.

Here's what people are saying

'I have yet to work in an environment that Mark hasn’t been able to cope with. Together we have filmed in extreme temperatures - both hot and cold - and in some of the most remote & inaccessible places on earth. He is a true expedition sound recordist - resourceful, accommodating and excellent company. But more than that I value his patient and sensitive handling of contributors, many of whom have had little contact with television or the outside world, and his editorial insight which is always welcome and always helpful.'
Kate Humble, Presenter

'I just wanted to write to say thank you for all your help with The World's Busiest Cities Hong Kong episode. You are officially the world's most organised sound man. The audio has been impeccable in all the difficult locations we shot in and your logs super helpful.’
Karolina Mottram, Producer, World’s Busiest Cities - Hong Kong

'Thank you so much for all your hard work and patience throughout the shoots – it was a slog at times but I think overall we pulled it off, and the shows are looking great so thank you again for all your efforts. Additionally, I wanted to thank you for your local expertise in Hong Kong which was invaluable and helping out with fixing the camera – way more than a sound man should have to do!'
Sarah Dean, Producer, John Torode’s Asia

'Thank you so much for all your work, effort, help and friendship during our recent Burmese jaunt. We certainly had an eventful time on our hands and it was made a whole lot less painful having you there. As ever your professionalism, your dedication and your complete lack of panic was AMAZING’.
Alexis Girardet, Producer, Burma’s Secret Jungle War With Joe Simpson

'I'm very aware how hard you worked in really difficult conditions and I'm truly grateful. The ultimate compliment is the dubbing guys couldn't find anything to complain about, and in fact even commented on how good the sound was! That's a huge testament to your skill and ability to keep up the highest standards with little or no sleep...thanks also for your endless patience and cheerfulness, it really counts when the going is so hard'.
Dick Colthurst, Executive Producer, Africa 2013: Countdown To The Rains (BBC)

On Life (BBC): 'This sound recordist is super excellent, I have never had such excellent sound and so easily accessible. I could make a whole Wildlfe on One with this sound alone'.

On Frozen Planet (BBC): 'Just to say thanks for another lot of great wild tracks, the right level, the right length and sound I actually need!! Wish they were all like this'.
Kate Hopkins, award-winning Sound Designer

'What a joy to have so many well-recorded wildtracks, my session is littered with them which should make the final mix a more enjoyable process. Thanks for all your hard work...'.
Greg Provan, Sound Designer, Living With Nomads
